JRR Tolkien

J.R.R. Tolkien was born in 1892 in South Africa. He lived there for 3 years before he returned to England with his Mother; unfortunately his father died 1 year later, leaving him with little memory of his father. His early childhood was, by all accounts, a happy one; he was brought up in the Warwickshire countryside (many regard this idealized upbringing as the basis for the Shire in Lord of the Rings).
He enlisted and served in World War 1 after finishing his college degree in Oxford.
It was after the war that he started writing "The Hobbit." Which would become the starting point from which he created and wrote the next 3 books known as the Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien used his wonderful creativity to give us a magical and mystical world in which so many people have enjoyed and escaped to thru his books.
